Bar Counsel 4th October 2006 Seeking advice is no sign of failure.. As a regular contributor to the Stratergy Clinic in The Caterer and Hotelkeeper, here are a few examples of the articles Carl has written. For a view of all the articles click here to link to The CatererSearch page.
Strategy clinic (15 June 2006) QUESTION: "A good competitor is opening near me. Should I see this as a positive, or as a negative?" SOLUTION: By Carl May, Catered4 There are always two sides to very coin, but if you're truly commited to your business it has to be a positive thing.
Stratergy clinic (25 May 2006) QUESTION: " I own a hotel with what I consider to be a good quality restaurant, but I'm a few miles out of town and suffer from very poor diner numbers. How do I improve my turnover?" SOLUTION: Carl May Catered4 Running in headfirst will only confuse your staff and send out the wrong signals.
Strategy clinic (16 February 2006 ) QUESTION:"I think I have what it takes to run my own food-led pub but have been told it's not an easy life. How do I know if it really is for me before it's too late?" SOLUTION: The fact that you're asking the question is a great start. Too many people rush on in headfirst then start to realise things aren't as easy as they had first imagined. I'm assuming you've arranged the suitable finance and haven't overstretched yourself. Many start-ups fail because of insufficient cash-flow.
